This page contains the legal notice for the Grew mobile app and the grew.world website, and its terms of use: the rules that apply between you and the publisher when you use Grew. To find out what happens to your data, read the privacy policy.
In short
- Grew is free and for people aged 15 and over.
- Grew is a playful mood journal: it is not a care service. If you're struggling, talk to someone: in France, 3114 answers 24/7; in an emergency, call 15 or 112 (outside France, 112 or your local emergency number).
- Be respectful: no harassment, no illegal content, no photo of someone without their agreement. You can report a problem directly in the app.
- Seeds are a virtual in-game currency with no cash value: they cannot be exchanged, converted or refunded, except where required by law.
- You can delete your account whenever you like, from the app.
1. Legal notice
Publisher of the app and of this website
- Grégory Mostacci, sole trader (entrepreneur individuel, EI)
- SIRET (French business registration number): [À COMPLÉTER : numéro SIRET]
- Address: [À COMPLÉTER : adresse de domiciliation], France
- Email: developer@gregory-mostacci.fr
- Phone: [À COMPLÉTER : numéro de téléphone]
Publication director: Grégory Mostacci.
The app is called Grew (Android identifier com.grew.app); its website and online service run under the domain name grew.world.
Host
This website (grew.world), the server, the database and the files of the app (api.grew.world) are hosted by OVH SAS (OVHcloud), 2 rue Kellermann, 59100 Roubaix, France — RCS Lille Métropole 424 761 419 — ovhcloud.com. The app's servers are located in France.
2. Purpose and acceptance of the terms
These terms describe how you can use Grew, what the publisher commits to doing, and what is forbidden. They form a contract between you and the publisher.
By creating your account (“Accept and continue” button at the end of the app's welcome screens) and then using Grew, you accept these terms. You can reread them at any time in the app (Settings › Privacy) or on this page. If you do not accept them, do not use Grew.
Purchases made through Google Play are also subject to Google Play's terms. This page exists in several languages; in the event of any difference, the French version prevails.
3. Minimum age
Grew is for people aged 15 and over. You declare this when creating your account by ticking “I am 15 or older”. Do not tick this box if it is not true.
If you are between 15 and 17, you can use Grew on your own, but you must ask a parent for permission (or the person with parental authority) before any purchase.
If we learn that someone under 15 is using Grew, their account will be deleted. You can let us know by email.
4. Your account
- Anonymous account: at the end of the welcome screens, Grew automatically creates an account without an email, tied to your phone. If you uninstall the app or change phones without having added an email, this account (seeds, items, history) cannot be recovered. An anonymous account that is not opened for 24 months is automatically deleted.
- Email account (optional): you can add an email and a password to find your account again on another phone. Choose a strong password that you don't use anywhere else, keep it to yourself, and let us know if you think someone is using it.
- Sessions: you stay logged in on a device as long as you open Grew on it at least once every 90 days. Log out of all my devices closes all your sessions at once.
- One account per person, for your personal use. Do not create accounts in bulk (for example to pile up seeds) and do not lend, sell or transfer your account.
- Anything done from your account is considered to have been done by you, unless you have reported fraudulent use to us.
5. What Grew does
Grew is an Android mood journal app. Depending on the features available when you use it, you can in particular:
- pick the grew that looks like you (one little character per emotion), with an intensity, tags (“What's behind it?”) and a note;
- choose who sees each grew: just you, your groups (all or some), or your groups and the anonymous map;
- attach behind the scenes (text, photo, voice note of 30 seconds at most) and decide whether or not to show them to the groups that see this grew;
- view your history and your statistics;
- create groups (20 members at most) or join them with an invitation code, see your friends' active grew and send them reactions (hug, high five, heart, sunshine);
- send gifts (an item, with a short message) to the members of your groups;
- see the anonymous map of current moods, and contribute to it if you choose;
- earn seeds and spend them in the shop (items to dress up your grews, dances, backgrounds, auras), complete quests and unlock achievements;
- add Grew widgets to your phone's home screen.
How long a grew lasts. A grew is “active” for 6 hours at most, or until you post another one. Only during this time do your groups see it, along with your behind the scenes if you show them.
Free of charge. Downloading and using Grew is free. Seed packs may be offered for purchase (see section 11); they are not needed to use the app.
Availability. Grew is developed and maintained by a single person. We do our best to make the service work well, but we cannot guarantee that it will be available at all times and error-free: it may be interrupted for maintenance, an update, a technical problem or an outage at our providers. An Internet connection is required for most features.
Changes. Grew evolves: features may be added, changed or removed, and the shop catalogue (items, seed prices, availability periods) may change. An item you already own stays yours as long as your account exists. If a change significantly reduces what you can do with Grew, we will inform you in advance in the app.
6. Grew is not a care service
Grew helps you track your mood, in a playful way. It is not a medical device: it makes no diagnosis, offers no treatment and does not replace a doctor, a psychologist or any other professional. Nobody monitors moods, notes or behind the scenes in real time: what you post in Grew does not trigger any help.
If you're going through a hard time, you don't have to stay alone with it.
- 3114: the French national suicide prevention line, free, 24/7, for you or for someone close to you that you're worried about.
- 15 (SAMU, French emergency medical service) or 112 (European emergency number) in case of immediate danger.
- Fil Santé Jeunes: 0 800 235 236 (free and anonymous, in France), for 12 to 25-year-olds.
- 3018: the French national helpline against online harassment and violence, free and anonymous.
- Outside France, call 112 or your local emergency number.
You can also talk to your doctor, someone you trust, or the health office at your school or university.
7. Rules of conduct
Grew is a kind place. When you choose a nickname, name a group, write a note or behind the scenes, add a photo or a voice note, send a reaction or a gift, you agree not to:
- harass, threaten, humiliate, intimidate or pressure anyone (including by repeating reactions or gifts to annoy them, or by demanding that someone show their mood);
- post hateful, racist, sexist, homophobic, discriminatory, violent, pornographic or sexual content;
- post illegal content, or content that encourages self-harm or harming others;
- photograph or record anyone without their agreement, or show their photo or voice without their agreement;
- impersonate someone else (another person, the publisher of Grew, a brand…);
- post personal information about someone else (full name, address, phone number…) without their agreement;
- copy, save or share outside Grew a friend's behind the scenes without their agreement;
- advertise, spam or scam, or share an invitation code to solicit strangers;
- cheat: get around the game's limits, use automated programs, exploit a bug to obtain seeds or items, or create multiple accounts;
- disrupt, attack or try to gain unauthorised access to the service, the server or other people's accounts.
If you discover a bug or a security flaw, please write to us rather than exploiting it.
8. Your content
Some content comes from you: your nickname, the names of your groups, the messages with your gifts, your notes and “Other” words, your photos and your voice notes.
- You remain the owner of, and responsible for, what you post. Do not post anything you do not have the right to post, in particular another person's image or voice without their agreement.
- You authorise the publisher, free of charge and only for the lifetime of your account, to store, reproduce and display this content to the extent necessary for Grew to work: for example, displaying your nickname to the members of your groups, passing your gift message on to its recipient, or showing your behind the scenes to the groups you have chosen. We do not use it for any other purpose and do not sell it to anyone.
- Your notes, photos and voice notes are private by default. They are only shown if you tick “Show behind the scenes too”, to the groups that see this grew, for 6 hours at most. Your tags and your “Other” words are never shown. The privacy policy explains in which very limited cases the publisher may view them.
- What the members of a group see is visible to everyone who has that group's code and has joined it. Only share invitation codes with people you trust.
9. Reporting and moderation
Reporting content or behaviour
If you see a nickname, a group name, a gift message, behind the scenes (text, photo, voice note) or behaviour that seems illegal or against these rules to you, report it directly in the app: the “Report” button on a member's profile, in a group's menu, on a gift message or on behind the scenes, or Settings › Report a problem. You choose a category and can add details; we keep a record of the reported content as it was at that moment.
You can also write to developer@gregory-mostacci.fr (subject “Grew report”): this is the single point of contact for users and for the authorities, in French or in English. By email, please include if possible:
- what the problem is and where it appears (group name, date);
- why you think it is illegal or against the rules;
- your email address for the reply (it is not shared with the reported person);
- if you are reporting illegal content: a sentence stating that you are making this report in good faith and that the information is accurate.
We acknowledge receipt of your report and review it carefully and impartially, as quickly as possible (normally within 7 days, faster in case of danger). We then tell you what we have decided: in the app, and by email if your account has one.
If someone is in immediate danger, first call 17 (police, in France) or 112. For online harassment, you can also contact 3018 (in France).
Possible measures
Moderation is done by the publisher, by hand (no automated sorting). Depending on the severity, and remaining proportionate, we may:
- warn you, or ask you to change your nickname or a group's name;
- hide or delete the content concerned (for example behind the scenes), or delete the group;
- suspend your account, temporarily or permanently: a suspended account can no longer use Grew;
- delete your account, in the most serious or repeated cases;
- remove seeds or items obtained by cheating or by exploiting a bug;
- pass information on to the authorities where the law requires it.
Information and appeal
If a measure concerns you, we tell you the reasons (the content at issue and the rule or law concerned) and your means of redress: in the app, and by email if your account has one (otherwise on simple request to developer@gregory-mostacci.fr). The identity of the person who made the report is never disclosed to you. You can appeal the decision directly in the app (“Appeal” button) or by writing to that same address: we then review your situation again, normally within 7 days, and reply to you. You also keep the option of turning to mediation or the courts (section 17). The person who made the report is also informed of the outcome.
10. Seeds (virtual currency)
Seeds 🌱 are the game's virtual currency.
How you earn them
- a small starting balance when the account is created;
- by posting your grews (with a bonus for the first grew of the day, a note, or a streak of days);
- by completing quests and unlocking achievements;
- by playing certain mini-games, when they are available (with a daily cap);
- by receiving reactions from your friends (1 seed per reaction received, 5 per day at most);
- by buying seed packs, once purchases are open (section 11).
The earning rules (amounts, caps) may change; the ones in force are shown in the app.
What they are for
- buying items, outfits, dances and options in the shop;
- sending a reaction to a member of your groups: your first reaction of the day is free, the next ones cost 10 seeds each; you can send one reaction per friend per day;
- giving a gift: you pay for the item in seeds, and it belongs to your friend as soon as it is sent.
The price in seeds is always shown before you confirm. A reaction or gift that has been sent cannot be cancelled.
Good to know
- Seeds have no monetary value: they are not money and can only be used in Grew.
- They are neither exchangeable nor convertible into money or anything else, nor transferable to another person or another account, outside the intended features (reactions, gifts). Selling or exchanging them outside Grew is forbidden.
- They are not refundable, except where required by law.
- Your balance cannot be negative. Seeds already earned stay yours if you delete a grew.
- If you delete your account (or if an anonymous account is deleted for inactivity), your seeds and your items are permanently lost.
- Seeds or items obtained by mistake (bug) or by cheating may be corrected.
11. In-app purchases
As of the date of these terms, no purchases are open in Grew. This section will apply when seed packs are offered.
- Google Play only. Seed packs will be sold exclusively through Google Play's payment system, under Google Play's terms. Google collects the payment, sends the purchase confirmation by email and manages your payment methods: Grew never sees your bank card.
- Price. The price is shown including all taxes by Google Play, in your currency, before you confirm the purchase. The content of each pack (number of seeds, any bonus) is shown in the app.
- Immediate delivery and right of withdrawal. Seeds are digital content added to your account straight away after payment. By confirming the purchase, you expressly request this immediate delivery and acknowledge that you waive your 14-day right of withdrawal (article L221-28, 13° of the French Consumer Code, Code de la consommation). This information is repeated on the purchase screen.
- Minors. If you are under 18, you must have a parent's permission before buying. Google Play offers parental controls and may require authentication for each purchase.
- Refunds. Refund requests follow Google Play's rules. You can also write to us if there is a problem (for example, seeds not received after a payment). If a purchase is refunded, the corresponding seeds may be removed from your balance.
- Delivery problem. If a payment is “pending”, the seeds are added only once the payment has been validated by Google. If you paid and received nothing, reopen the shop (paid purchases are recovered automatically) or write to us with your Google order number.
- These rules do not limit your consumer rights, in particular the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content (articles L224-25-12 et seq. of the French Consumer Code).
12. Intellectual property
The Grew app, its name, its logo, its texts, its grews (the characters), illustrations, animations, items, dances, sounds, its code and this website belong to the publisher or are used with the permission of their authors. They are protected by copyright and trademark law.
As long as your account exists and you comply with these terms, the publisher grants you a free, personal and non-exclusive right to use Grew for your private, non-commercial use. You can take screenshots of your grews to share them with the people close to you or on your social networks. It is forbidden to copy, modify, resell, decompile or reuse the app or its elements elsewhere, except in the cases permitted by law.
The base map is provided by OpenFreeMap, based on data © OpenStreetMap contributors. The fonts of this website and of the app (Cherry Bomb One, Bricolage Grotesque, Nunito) are licensed under the SIL Open Font License.
13. Account deletion, suspension, end of the service
By you, at any time
You can stop using Grew whenever you like and delete your account in the app (Settings › Delete my account), or without the app by following the Delete my Grew account page. Deletion is immediate and permanent; your seeds and items are lost.
By the publisher
In the event of a serious breach of these terms (for example harassment, illegal content, organised cheating, undermining the security of the service), or repeated breaches, the publisher may suspend or delete your account. Except in urgent cases (danger to other people, manifestly illegal content, a threat to security, a legal obligation), you are notified in advance and can explain yourself. In all cases, the decision is reasoned and you can appeal it (section 9).
End of the service
If Grew were to shut down permanently, you would be informed in the app at least 30 days in advance, so that you can use your seeds and export your data. Seeds bought and not used would then be handled in accordance with the applicable law.
14. Liability
- The publisher undertakes to provide Grew with care and to fix problems within a reasonable time. It is liable for damage it causes through its own fault, under the conditions provided for by law.
- The publisher is not liable for content posted by other users as long as it is not aware of it; as soon as it becomes aware of it (for example through a report) and the content is manifestly illegal, it acts quickly to remove it.
- The publisher is not liable for problems that do not come from it: a failure of your phone or your connection, a force majeure event, or misuse of the app contrary to these terms.
- You are responsible for what you post and for the use of your account.
- Nothing in these terms limits your consumer rights or the publisher's liability in the event of gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or of personal injury.
15. Personal data
Grew processes personal data, including your mood journal (treated as health data, with your explicit consent). Everything is explained in the Grew privacy policy: data collected, who sees what, retention periods, recipients, and your rights (export, withdrawal of consent, deletion…). This website, for its part, sets no cookies and uses no trackers.
16. Changes to the terms
These terms may change, for example when Grew changes or when the law requires it. The date of the update is shown at the top of this page. In the event of a significant change, you are informed in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect (unless a faster change is required by law or necessary for security). If you do not agree with the new terms, you can delete your account before they take effect; if you keep using Grew afterwards, they apply.
17. Complaints and mediation
If there is a problem, first write to developer@gregory-mostacci.fr: we will look for a solution with you.
If your written complaint has not settled the dispute, you can, as a consumer, refer the matter free of charge to the consumer mediator (médiateur de la consommation) the publisher belongs to, within one year of your written complaint (articles L612-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code):
- [À COMPLÉTER : médiateur de la consommation : nom, adresse, site web]
Using mediation is optional: you can also go directly to the courts.
18. Governing law and courts
These terms are governed by French law. If you live in another country of the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your country of residence.
In the event of a dispute, and if no amicable solution has been found, you can bring the matter, at your choice, before the court of the place where you lived when the contract was concluded or when the event giving rise to the dispute occurred, or before one of the other courts with jurisdiction under the law (article R631-3 of the French Consumer Code).
19. Contact
For any question about these terms, a report, a complaint or a request about your data:
